FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. Is electrolysis permanent?
A. A competent electrologist should be able to permanently remove, after just one electrolysis treatment, at least 75% of the hair treated. In my practice I've found at least 90% of the hair never returns after just one treatment.

Q. Is electrolysis painful?
A. Inaccurate insertions and inappropriate current levels are the two main reasons for discomfort during treatments. I use a surgical microscope designed for ear, nose and throat procedures to help me locate and treat hairs. It gives me binocular or stereo vision with a magnification of about 10x, so seeing exactly what I'm doing is no problem. It also significantly reduces eyestrain and allows me to go for extended periods treating clients with no visual problems. The use of just enough current to destroy the germinative cells that would grow a new hair is determined by training and experience. I graduated from the Electrolysis Education Institute in 1979 and started my practice in 1980. I've been at the same location ever since-- almost twenty-five years.

Q. How much does it cost?
A. The answer depends on the amount of hair to be treated, its type -- whether its thick or fine and the area to be treated. I never give estimates without seeing the client and area to be treated first. There is no charge for the electrolysis consultation.

Q. Does electrolysis cause scarring or marking?
A. Sometimes there is a little redness at the treatment site, but otherwise, unless it is really thick, strong hair in a sensitive area there shouldn't be much sign of treatment. There definitely should never be any long-term scarring.

Q. Are there any contra-indications for electrolysis treatment?
A. Most people can have treatments without any problems but there are a few pre-existing conditions which may restrict treatment. These include but are not limited to: pacemaker, diabetes, skin prone to keloiding, and communicable diseases.

Q. Are the pores larger after electrolysis treatment?
A. No, the skin will look as if the hair had never grown out of that area in the first place.

Q. Is laser hair removal permanent?
A. There has never been any evidence offered to show that laser hair removal is permanent. Those that offer this as fact, fly in the face of F.D.A. rulings. Electrolysis is the only proven method of permanent hair removal.
